Protocol Records' Reviews Program

The Protocol Records' reviews program offers a unique opportunity for independent artists trying to shop around a demo for label consideration, or advanced artists trying to get coverage for their disc.

Here's how the program works:

    You've made your demo, and now you're ready for an interested label to strike up a deal. As you may have noticed, however, this is much easier said than done nowadays.
    Make a few copies of your demo (at least five) and send them along to Protocol Records along with the required forwarding/handling fee. See below for package options.
    Your demo is then reviewed by Protocol Records and formed into what is known as a "one sheet". That "one sheet" is forwarded to Protocol's subsidiary and alliance labels, such as Reprise Records, Dreamworks Records, Epitaph Records, and many others. At this point the labels are receiving a SOLICITED demo from us. Example: if an indie artist sends their demo to Dreamworks Records, it is automatically rejected because the label didn't ask for a copy of the disc. However, because of our alliances with these labels, your disc is automatically accepted and listened to by the people you want to sign your band.
    Bingo! Your disc is in the hands of the labels that really matter in both the indie and major label categories.
    OR, if you aren't looking for a label contract, we will forward the same number of discs listed below to real radio stations who are guaranteed to play your disc.

Now you're thinking "How can I sign up"? It's easy!

First, take a look at the package options:

      Package 1: Basic - $49.95
      You:
    • Mail five copies of your disc

      • We:
    • Assemble your one-sheet
    • Mail three copies of your disc to three choice-labels
    • Review your disc and post the review on the Protocol Records website

      Package 2: Intermediate - $99.95
      You:
    • Mail eight copies of your disc

      • We:
    • Assemble your one-sheet
    • Mail five copies of your disc to five choice-labels
    • Review your disc and post the review on the Protocol Records website
    • Write an informative article on your band and get it syndicated by the Associated Press

      Package 3: Advanced - $199.95
      You:
    • Mail fifteen copies of your disc

      • We:
    • Assemble your one-sheet
    • Mail ten copies of your disc to ten choice-labels
    • Review your disc and post the review on the Protocol Records website
    • Write an informative article on your band and get it syndicated by both the Associated Press and Reuters
    • Get The All-Music-Guide's Chair, Stephen Thomas Erlewine, to review your disc himself and post a review and a biography of your band on www.allmusic.com

      Package 4: Deluxe - $399.95
      You:
    • Mail one copy of your disc

      • We:
    • Replicate copies of your disc on demand and sell them on the Protocol Records website, marketing your band as a Protocol artist
    • Assemble your one-sheet
    • Mail ten copies of your disc to ten choice-labels
    • Review your disc and post the review on the Protocol Records website
    • Write an informative article on your band and get it syndicated by both the Associated Press and Reuters
    • Get The All-Music-Guide's Chair, Stephen Thomas Erlewine, to review your disc himself and post a review and a biography of your band on www.allmusic.com
    • Get national distribution for your disc through The Orchard distribution
